Summer Youth |
| Summer activities for youth and young adults include providing employment assistance
to both universal youth and WIA eligible youth. For WIA youth, summer activities may also include leadership
development skills, career skills, career exploration, and citizenship skills. These activities may be for
full, part-time, and/or temporary opportunites. Employment assistance will be coordinated with the Power Zone®
Job Developers and is described in detail below. |
| |
| Universal Youth Services: |
| |
 |
As in the other months of the year, universal youth visit the Power Zone® for
assistance in finding employment during the summer. To assist in this process, staff will attempt to gather as
much information as possible from the youth to help with their job search. |
| |
 |
Each youth interested in employment assistance will complete an Applicant Questionnaire
(WIA 001) and a work registration using the online services of workintexas.com (WIT). |
| |
 |
Staff will also provide assistance in completing applications, preparing resumes,
interview skills, etc. |
| |
| WIA Specialized Youth Services: |
| |
 |
As those universal youth are screened and determined WIA eligible, the staff
will determine if they are suitable for WIA enrollment into Specialized Services for summer activities. |
| |
 |
Each youth will be screened for other program services such as First Generation College Student
services (STARS), and vocational rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities. |
| |
| The Power® Zone focuses on youth who have completed or are no longer attending high school. |
| |
| There are limited slots available, so call or come by your nearest Power Zone®. |
